No, if usability is key on the desktop, it is even more important on a mobile device. Have the past 12 years of Newtons, PalmPilots, Pocket PCs and smartphones with various implementations of WAP and T9, full screen touchscreens, chiclet keyboards, add-on keyboard accessories... ad nauseum taught us (collectively) nothing?

There will be many lessons from iPhone v1. Not the least of which will be 'Though shalt not drive whilst attempting to use this phone'-- I expect the safety labelling movement to begin after the first dozen accidents are attributed to the iPhone, and the class action lawsuits have drawn their battlelines... This is, after all, America--the land of the free, home of the laser-focus on 'its not my fault' as well as 'where do I get mine?'

Alex this is a great post, thank you for your insight. I am a huge proponent for mobile banking, would you mind if I cross-posted this into iPhone banking discussion groups?

It would be great to get your opinion on two things:
1. Will the iPhone improve accessibility of a bank's current online suite?
2. Does this make a good platform for the personal finance and banking web apps that are already in development?

why do you need an iPhone to run mobile basecamp? i should be able to use it on any phone because a mobile version of basecamp would be a killer app for ANYONE who does project organization.

And whaddya know...basecamp has an API that would allow anyone to create a mobile version of they so chose to spend the time.

The reason I think that basecamp ISNT a killer app for the iPhone in particular is its reliance on text entry and while at this point it's speculation, I'm pretty sure the iPhone is going to be way better at looking at stuff than it is typing/texting.

Speculation speculation speculation. That's all we can do until I can put my fingerprints all over it. That virtual keyboard has me way nervous, especially as someone who switched to a blackberry specifically for the high-quality keyboard.
